U.S. Presidents: The Very Elite Club

There is always so much going on in this world to keep up with it. I can honestly say, like many of my class mates, that it is hard for me to follow the news. Although much of the news is repeated for weeks, there is also so much going on. From the conflict between Israel and Gaza, to the upcoming inauguration of President-elect, Barack Obama, and even how the Florida Gators are once again, National Champions, the news is never ending. I often times catch a glimpse of what’s going on when I eat at Suwanee or Fresh Foods, but a lot of the times, it’s depressing news. News such as bombings in Iraq or the corruption of a government official. News that turns me away from watching and continue eating.

As I was looking at the New York Times’ website cover page, I found an article that caught my eye. U.S. Presidents: The Very Elite Club That Never Meets, written by Sheryl Gay Stolberg was one of the only articles I actually enjoyed reading. It talked about the gathering of the four living presidents, along with the President-elect, in the White House. It was the first such gathering since 1981, with President Reagan. It was requested by Barack Obama, and I feel that it was a wise decision to do such a request. He had “convened his predecessors for the sole purpose of picking their collective brains.” As president-elect, this meeting, or club as many people call it, will help him in the many decisions he will have to be making in the next four years.  

I tried looking for a blog that related to this topic, but was unsuccessful. If I was to comment on it myself, I would say that it was a strategic idea on Barack Obama’s part. It was a good way to publicize himself, and made him look like a better person.
