I hate Writing

I am tired of Writing and I am tired of school. I do not want to do anymore writing however since this is only the third draft well I have to write more. It always seems like we have to write more I can’t wait for someone to say hey kid you can stop writing now, I have written 5 page papers for history I have written papers for English, I have defiantly written papers for English, and now soon I have to write a paper for Dinosaurs and Disasters, why do I have to write a paper in Dinosaurs and Disasters I can sum it up in one sentence, the dinosaurs roamed the earth till a giant meteor killed them off. That is dinosaurs and disasters. I know a little off topic. Back to the research paper I am tired of sitting at my key board and pressing the buttons. I think I hate my Computer now because every time I sit down at it I have to write five more pages. MLA is dragging me down just because it takes time to do the sources and to ,make sure everything is right. My mind is starting to refuse to proof read my paper because I have read it countless times and I am still finding mistakes. I can’t type as fast as I can think so ideas get lost, so I write them on paper and then loose the paper. You know what screw typing I am going fishing and will be back in an hour…. Well I am more upset now I lost a lure in a tree that fell in the water and missed catching a fish…twice…. But really I guess overall this research paper is not that bad I still have to write more pages though but I know once I reach those eight pages I can start to calm down and relax. I can’t wait to stop typing.
My question about is about citing figures and pictures in my paper I am still confused and am not to sure the proper way to do it.

I have begun the interviewing process I have divided my interviews up into two parts the first part is completed I have interview my Mother and Father on their experiences of the heat of the early Cold War around the time of the Bay of pigs and later. My father had the most vivid memory of the time. He told me the soviets where not discussed really in school or his parents didn’t talk to him about the Soviet Union. He did remember though on the television were propaganda commercials. One commercial really stuck out in his mind. He said that it was a commercial telling that behind the iron curtain was the Soviet Union and the Communist and that they Did not believe in God. This was a really prime example of negative propaganda. However during my research I came across files from PBS on Soviet propaganda and in the photos is a picture of a kid with a banner that read “Pioneers sound the alarm if your parents Believe in God!” it was taken in Moscow in 1929. This is Ironic Only because during the rise of Russia throughout the Middle ages Russia saw themselves as the Heir to the Greek orthodox throne after the fall of Constantinople 1453. My Dad also remembers vividly being extremely frightened of Nuclear War during the time of the Bay of Pigs he was fairly young at the time. My mother did not really remember too much of the Cold war but she remembers doing the Duck and Cover drills at school. This weekend we are traveling to see my Grandparents (my dad’s parents) and my uncles my grandfather is a WWII veteran and Uncles are Vietnam Veterans my second part of the interviews will take place then. For now though I believe this is a very good information.

Questions I would Ask People

For my interview, I would need to interview some people who lived during the cold war. I will interview people like my grandfather who served in World War II and my uncles who served in Vietnam as well as my Mom and Dad who remember the nuclear bomb drills they did in school during the Cold War. Some questions I would ask.

1) In school what was taught about the Soviet Union and communism?
2) Does any Propaganda stick out in your mind from that time?
3) Were you as a person afraid of the Soviet Union?
4) As a reader, could you decipher what was propaganda and what was not?
5) Did you know the government was putting out propaganda?
6) What was some of your thoughts about Joseph McCarthy and his Team used to root out “traitors”?
7) Did your parents ever talked about the Soviet Union to you?
8) As growing up did you ever remember seeing Propaganda in any form? Did you believe this?
9) Over seas, was there propaganda about the Soviets or United States Present?
10) What was the atmosphere like during the Cuban Missile Crisis? What were your views? Did this affect your life?

These are only a few questions I could ask. I like being able to ask my grand parents about more political issues and then talk to my parents or uncles about things they saw when they were little and how they affected them and what were they taught. i am looking in responses that may even be laced with popaganda or to find out a source to where the government was feeding propaganda to the masses

Family Guy

I chose to do my research paper on the stereotypes in family guy. Family guy is believed to be making fun of stereotypes used in movies rather than promoting these stereotypes. Others like Latoya Peterson of Racialicious found the stereotyping a little problematic even if it is played off as a joke. Some even find these stereotypes as offensive. Family guy takes a humor approach toward modern stereotypes including that of Asians as smart/bad drivers, blacks as bad with the law, cops as racist, jews as good with money, I am choosing to pick out all of these stereotypes and throw in others and my own views on them supported or negated by data. Most of the information found on this topic is based on opinion so there is really no right or wrong therefore there is no factor of a reliable source because different people have different opinions on how and why these stereotypes are portrayed.

Are Foreigners Really Always Villians

In my In in mypaper I was going to tackle the stereotype that all foreigners are villains. You might sit there and say hey foreigners aren’t Evil. True but just this last election one of the big issues was immigration. You have people calling for tighter immigration controls I decided to go and look at http://www.usbc.org/ which is the United States board control organizational web site I then decided I needed to look at one for immigrant’s rights and found http://www.justiceforimmigrants.org/myths.html these were both interesting to look at because on the border control website you have a set of facts calling out immigrants and on the other web site you have them saying the opposite of the other facts. If you think about it in a lot of movies the villains come from another country or school or even galaxy. The next question is aliens all bad and villainous well this guy here thinks he is 98% sure they are not hostile http://www.abovetopsecret.com/forum/thread276918/pg1 first I do not believe we have aliens flying about in top secret spaceships. Yea maybe one crashed 60 years ago but by now with our technology it would be hard to miss them. Nut either way since as to our knowledge now we are alone so really it is ones opinion whether an alien is good or bad. And movies and shows lead us down the road that says they are villains. Movies like Rocky 4, and 300 give these foreigners embellished looks and tries to make them look as if they cannot be defeated or over come so when our protagonist triumphs it is another boost for nationalism. Key example of stereotyping foreigners would be when the united states rounded up all the Japanese people on the west coast and put them in concentration camps, or when we tried so hard to destroy the native American population.

The Painful Process

After reading Ballenger’s introduction I think this piece is going to be full of crap. I’m going to have to agree with Sam on this one, that a research paper is a research paper. There is no fun in writing them; it’s a long painful process that is just going to happen because it has to, not because it’s interesting. That’s just my opinion though. I don’t really understand where Ballenger is coming from- the difference between a research report and a research paper. To me it’s all the same. It’s a lot of time in the library and online looking up and refuting or agreeing with things that have already been in so many other research papers before. In high school I wasn’t really required to write many research papers. There was one particular one my senior year that I hated doing. We had to read a book that we got to choose out of a reading list. I picked The Kite Runner. While I loved the book, we were required to write a ten page research paper on one question that we created about something pertaining to the facts in the book. I’m not really sure if I just didn’t do a good job picking my question or what, but I completed the paper and ended up getting a really good grade on it, I just hated the process to get there. If I could write about anything I would probably have to pick something pertaining to dance. Dance is something that I love doing and it interests me, even when it’s just on paper. There is so much stuff that I still don’t know about it, but I would love to find out!

My question is one thing I’m kind of confused about; what is the easiest way to incorporate your own opinion in a paper without paraphrasing what you researching?

CARDINALS ARE GOING TO THE SUPER BOWL& oh yeah research papers

Just in case you didn’t know the Arizona Cardinals WON Sunday 32-25 and now the cardinals are going to the SUPERBOWL!!!!!! Once again if you all want to buy me a ticket you would be my best friend.

But getting back on topic. I HATE RESEARCH PAPERS. There are so MANY RULES you have to follow. The bibliography and work cited are the worst. I mean, I know we are suppose to give the original author’s credit. But you’d think you would just have to put the author’s name and the title of the source. But no some person who came up with this MLA format decided everyone should suffer. They decided to force us into adding the publishers, the date it was published, the city it was published in and the year it was published all in a jumbled order with spaces and commas and periods and slashes. Oh yeah, and if you don’t do it right you’re plagiarizing. You have no freedoms in research papers. All of the research papers I have written have been about things I don’t care to research. Students never get to research what they want. So when I am writing I always have to stretch to make word counts or page limits and it is always mind numbing. I figure research papers are built on the idea that you want to further your knowledge in something. But when teachers tell you, you have to do a topic on poets or Shakespeare plays. It gets tough for me to do these papers because it is something that is not interesting to me but something that is interesting/important to the teacher. In research papers I want to research and I want to further my knowledge in something I feel is interesting/important. Maybe it will help the reader learn something rather then a stale, boring stretch to meet the word count, paper that helps no one.

If I had it my way I would research stuff I am interested in like music or sports. Maybe research the history of the Arizona Cardinals (which I already have a base knowledge of but could dig deeper they have a 110 year history). Or maybe teams that are considered “Cursed” or history of an instrument or a band.

Ms. O’Malley can I research the Arizona Cardinals? Please, please, please! It would be a really good paper!
