Change...Hopefully
Like jordan I rarely watch the news or read the newspaper. As a college student I know I should be more informed on current events but I just can’t stand all the negativity. Why darken my day with wars, death and political bickering? I do not want to be ignorant but I would rather have my primary focus on the positive aspects of our world. For this assignment I tried to find something positive on the listed news sites but was unsuccessful. It saddened me that there was not one major headline that made me want to smile or suggest that something is going right in today’s society. The article I chose is titled “In Emphasis on Economy Obama Looks To History.” I chose an article about our new elected president because in my opinion he is a catalyst to change. The article focuses primarily on Obama’s struggle to keep the American public calm, hopeful and on his side while also informing congress of the urgency of America’s current economic situation. “Mr. Obama has sought to strike a balance: emphasizing the depth of the problem, to create a sense of political urgency for Congress to act quickly, while not being so pessimistic that he could further destabilize the jittery financial markets or deplete the sense of energy and hope accompanying his election.” It is a thin and fragile tight rope that President Obama is about to step onto but it is one that I at least hope he makes across. Obama is looking to President Roosevelt’s first 100 days in office to guide him through the beginning stages of his own presidency, hoping that he can win America over the way Roosevelt did. I agree with and admire President Obama’s respect and awareness to history. History helps the present not repeat the same mistakes and learn from the successes of the past.

I am right there with you on both following the news and Barack Obama’s admiration and determination. I feel that president-elected Barack Obama is a smart man in how he is looking to the past presidencies for help and advice for his own presidency. Although some may argue that he should know what he is doing, the famous quote goes, "Those who do not know their history are doomed to repeat it.” Our current economic state needs to be fixed, and with the determination of Barack Obama, I feel that it will. If America stays calm and supports our president-elect, he will only try his best to lead our country. So all in all, I agree with what you have said for the hope of Barack Obama as our President.
