President Bush's final press conference

In today’s world it is really hard to sit down and watch the news. Every time that you turn on the news we see that some bomb just exploded in the middle east or we hear more about how we are all losing money because of this economic crisis. Not to mention there is no question that today’s news is biased. But one of the top stories today is President George W. Bush had his final presidential press conference today. The article was entitled “Bush's final press conference, laments” by Mark Silva. This article was very interesting to read because Bush was looking back on his entire presidency. This was fun to read because I was able to read some of Bush’s direct quotes and not just what the media wanted us to think he said. For Starters Bush said "President-elect Obama's election does speak volumes about how far this country has come,'' due to the fact that we just elect our first African American president. I personally may not support the election of this man but I feel very luck to have been alive to witness this historic election and I will support him as our president. Later in the article Bush talks about some of the criticism that he has received over the years. I am personally ashamed of the way that our country has treated him over the past few years. I will be the first to admit that in his presidency he has made some mistakes, and probably more than other presidents but the disrespect that some people and reports have shown him is just too much. He deserves way more respect than that. Also I find it interesting how he gets criticized for things that are not even completely true. For example Bush says “’People say the federal response [to Katrina] was slow,’… ‘Don't tell me the federal response was slow when 30,000 people were pulled off the roofs by helicopters' after the flood.”
So although President Bush was no Ronald Regan he still was OUR president and I strongly believe that he deserved more respect than our country gave him.
