Post 2

As one reads through a newspaper or watch national news channels such as CNN, the same events are making headlines day after day. Periodicals seem to remind the public of the challenges that awaits president elect Barack Obama once he is inaugurated into office everyday. Among these challenges is the US economy and how to ameliorate our current situation and the war in Afghanistan. Another top story that is appearing in almost every publication around the world is the conflict between Israel and Gaza. Nonetheless, in response to Jordan’s blog, I’ve decided to elaborate more on the economy than the other top story subjects.

The world is a controversial place. Although, it is easy to ignore what is happening, one cannot escape the controversies of the world because we are part of the controversy. While I understand why someone may avoid watching the news, I believe it’s more beneficial to watch and understand what is occurring rather than ignoring it. In watching the news, an individual have a great chance of comprehending the problem and maybe proceed to compose a solution to the problem. In doing so, this would be a less controversial world.

Looking at the NY Times, I read the editorial The Stimulus Debate. This editorial elaborates on the unemployment rate, the effectiveness of the tax cut plans, and what the nation’s moves should be once the economy recovers. According to the editorial, “tax cuts are not an overarching solution to serious problems.” I am not great on the subject of economics. However, a great way to start rebuilding the economy, at least from the perspective of getting the mass on your side, is by pleasing the mass which is the middle and lower class. However that is not the end of the puzzle. We’ve learned that to avoid being in debt, one must make more money than he/she spends. Therefore, the solution that I propose is to produce more goods and sell or trade with other countries. Being that the US depends on other countries so much, the promise of our economy recovering anytime soon is looking vacant.

On a brighter note, congratulations to Adam's Arizona Cardinals for spanking the Carolina Panthers and moving on to the NFC championship game. They sure made headlines with that win because I, and I'm sure a ton of other people, did not see that one coming.
