My Community of Friends

One type of community that is prominent in my life is my community of friends. In particular my best friends, which consists of 2 others girls that I have known since the 8th grade. Each one of us has our own unique role within the group. These roles obviously weren’t assigned but just formed from our distinct and very different personalities. Kaitlin is the carefree spirit that will do anything with a simple “yeahhh”, while smiling and giggling. Sam is loud, sarcastic, and the somewhat responsible one. She is always making someone in the room laugh or doing something at the whim of her liking. My role in the group can’t be described any other way than as the mom, although sometimes I stray from this role. I’m the voice of reason most of the time and try to think about things thoroughly before acting. And then other times I’m the one egging on something that probably isn’t the smartest idea. Sam and I were the only two that attended FSU and room together in lovely dorms here at Florida State. Kaitlin comes up and visits frequently and is actually currently visiting this week, sleeping comfortably on our blow up mattress. This past week during Kaitlin’s visit we all looked at houses together for next year when she moves up to Tallahassee with us. Now that I think about it our personalities came out in just looking at this one house. Kaitlin is running around the house trying to find the room she wants saying “I want the one with the most sunshine”. In my head I’m thinking about how far it is from campus and which room I want based on convenience. And then Sam’s in the background making a joke about the room I picked, saying how I’m first to die if we’re robbed since it’s so close to the front door. We are all so different in many ways but somehow get along so well and still haven’t killed each other after 5 years.

  1. Tonya, I love how you describe the roles of your friends in regards to choosing a house - very illustrative!
