Hace unos cuantos años...

When I was born, times were slightly different than the world we know today. Bush Sr. was running things, the tearing down of the Berlin wall was still fresh in the world’s mind, and concepts like Hurricane Katrina and September 11th, were only described as worst-case scenarios in books. On the other side of the coin though, art was as prevalent as it had ever been. The music industry was transitioning from it’s grunge and early hip-hop melodies to softer rock melodies and faster urban tracks.

But where I came from, the music I grew up with was always the same. Songs that my parents had sung. Guantanamera, a traditional ballad from Cuban soil, still reverberates in my mind as the theme song behind family parties, and all those times when life was a little bit more simple.
